Patient Home Exercise
One of the key components to chiropractic treatment is patient home exercise. Muscles, joints and various other tissues work together in a co-ordinated manner to allow the body to function properly. If one component of this matrix is not functioning properly it will affect other surrounding tissues, both close to the injured area as well as further away from it.
The treatment that is rendered within this office helps to bring balance within the body. To keep the body in balance, I strongly believe in prescribing specific stretching/strengthening exercises to ensure proper stability of the different areas being treated. This also helps to speed up your recovery and to prevent further injury from occurring.
Depending on the length of time the injury has been present, various tissues around the body become “twisted” in order to compensate for the injured area. In some cases the body can think that this twisted state is actually “normal” and after a treatment the body will try to go back into the position which it feels to be normal.
In order to prevent this from happening, certain areas of the body may need to be stabilized with a joint strap as well as prescription of specific stretching / strengthening exercises to help ensure proper stability of the different areas being treated.
The more a patient is able to follow their “homework” of these exercises the faster their recovery will be, which is the ultimate goal of this office.
